Essay about A Discussion On Intercultural Communication Essay Example For Students
Essay about A Discussion On Intercultural Communication Essay POD DISCUSSION 5:Intercultural communication is type of communication which people from different cultures and groups share information. The occasion where significant basically cultural differences made effective intercultural communication a challenge between me and my friend here in America was about bride price. In my culture bride price is paid by groom to the family of the girl who is going to marry. The bride price symbolizes as a promise to always love and protect. It serves as reassurance to the brideââ¬â¢s parents that the daughter they love with all their heart will be in good hands. The bride price does not represent the value of a women and it was never intended to. Its present a promise to love and respect a women. But my friend who is the citizen here and was born here told me that in America there is no like this culture anymore, they do not pay any bride price to groom or to the bride. Not only that occasion but also significant cultural difference made effective intercultural communication a challenge between me and my my classmate from Sri lanka said that in their culture a bride is the one who paying for bride price and before that the family of the groom they should look for wealth of family of the bride in terms of land and business they have. The Glass Menagerie Persuasive Essay Example For Students
The Glass Menagerie Persuasive Essay Symbolism is a major aspect in Tennessee Williams famous play, The Glass Menagerie. On the surface, the short slice of life story seems to be simple. However, if the reader digs deeper they will find that there are several symbols that give the play a deeper meaning. Each character defines each symbol in a different way. There are some very noticeable symbols that can be analyzed when studying The Glass Menagerie. The first is the actual glass menagerie that represents the fragility of the Wingfields dreamlike existence. The second is the fire escape, which reflects each characters tendency to escape from reality in their own ways. The third is the yellow dress, which represents youth and the past. The actual animal collection, or glass menagerie, symbolizes each character in the story. Like the glass animals, the characters realities are very fragile and in danger of being shattered. It is also as though the characters are stuck in glass, unable to move or change, also like the glas s animals. They are inanimate, as the characters have learned to be to hide and escape from the pain that life has given them. Laura loves the glass animals because her family is like them. It will not take much, like Tom leaving, to shatter their whole world. We will write a custom essay on The Glass Menagerie Persuasive specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Laura is symbolized by her fragile collection of glass animals, the glass menagerie. Her favorite animal is the unique unicorn. The unicorn is different because it has a horn. When Laura was in high school, she wore a brace. The unicorn and Laura are alike in this way. When Jim dances with Laura, he knocks over the unicorn and the horn breaks off. Now it is like all of the other horses. The unicorn losing its horn is a symbol. The unicorn in its original state symbolizes something different. It is delicate, beautiful, and precious in its own unique way. This could symbolize Laura has natural beauty in an unearthly way that is hidden by her shyness and limp. When Laura starts to talk to Jim, she gets more confidence in herself and realizes that she is not that different from everyone else in the world. The horn symbolizes a difference, an obstacle to be overcome and admired. The fire escape is a major symbol in this play. It represents a different symbol for each character. For Amanda , the fire escape is a way for her to be protected from the outside world, or reality. She cannot live in the present, and the lack of a front door makes it easy for her to avoid real life. She convinces herself that she isnt capable of leaving the safe haven she has created by locking herself inside the strange apartment. She has become trapped by her memories. Laura uses the fire escape as a symbol in a similar way. She, too, is protected from the outside world by the fire escape, and she is also limited by it because of her handicap. It will require an extra effort for Laura to overcome her limp and get out into the world using the fire escape, symbolizing how her life is more difficult because of her handicap and her delusional mother. Tom uses the fire escape as an escape to the outside world. He cannot live in the depressed delusions of his mother and sisters reality, so he goes out the fire escape to work, and to the movies. He even succeeds in bringing in a possible replacem ent for him, someone else to take care of his helpless family members, when he brings Jim OConnor into the apartment. .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3 , .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3 .postImageUrl , .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3 , .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3:hover , .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3:visited , .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3:active { border:0!important; } .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3:active , .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3 .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u551fcd4c329dfa8fdeba6c61a2bc65b3:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Benedick And Beatrices Relatio EssayThe yellow dress that Amanda insists on wearing when Jim comes over symbolizes her desperate attempt to live in the past when she was young. The yellow and blue silk frock is a symbol of her youth and of the times in her life when she was happy. She wore it when she won the cakewalk twice at Sunset Hill, and she wore it at the Governors Ball in Jackson. This reminds her of happier times when she didnt have to worry about being a single mother with few skills to raise a family on her own. Book Reports

Brave New World Essays (721 words) - Brave New World,
Brave New World The book that I read was Brave New World. It was written by Aldous Huxley. Huxley was born in England on July 26, 1894. He came to the States in 1937. Throughout his writing career he wrote many types of things. His works included novels, poetry, and essays.Huxley had established himself as a prestigious writer by the time that he was thirty. He also received the Award of Merit for his novel Island., from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He died Nov. 22 1963. In California. I want to give you some background about the book before I get into the theme. The book itself takes place in a futuristic London. The entire Western Europe is controlled by one man, the Ford. The Ford's name is Mustapha Mond. In this society all of the people are hatched. The idea of people Giving birth is repulsive as well as is the idea of anyone wanting to be alone. Every persons future is predetermined. They are made to fit a cast system And they can never break away from that cast. Some people are smart and well respected and others are looked at like they are the scum of the earth. The primary objective of This society is to be social. To have fun, and to have sex with no commitment. Dealing with problems is no problem for these people because of a drug called Soma. Soma is like a tranquilizer that puts you in a place that you want to be and has no side-effects. So they never have to face reality. The book is centered around four main Characters The Director of Hatcheries and Conditioning, a scientist named Lenina , another scientist Bernard and the Savage,John. The theme of the book is that people need to be looked as an individual with specific needs and concerns and feelings not that we should all be the same way all of the time The theme of the book starts with John. John is a young man that has lived his entire life on an Indian reservation. And has had no contact with the new modernized world. John is brought back from the Reservation to the city by Bernard and Lenina who were visiting the reservation for a vaction. At first he doesn't know what to make of this new exciting Place with its lights and smells and music going all of the time. This is shown many times in things that characters say. The passage that I'm going to read it shows John's lack of interest for the city. The excerpt is from a letter written by Bernard to Mustapha Mond about Johns addaptation to the city.(book pg. 160) As the book progresses and John spends more time in the city He begins to dislike it more and more. That is the primarily Due to the fact that Bernard begins to just want to show John off To the high-ups in the city. It is obvious that John is becoming defensive about how much he want to be out in public. You can tell this just by his responses to Bernard in this quote. (book pg. 175) Eventually John gets so feed up with the Brave New World that He feels that he must leave. He prepares as much supplies that He can. He leaves and goes to a valley on the outskirts of town To an abandon Lighthouse. He remained there self-sufficient Until a few travelers found that he was there they immediately Notified the media and soon reporters were bothering him again. He became more upset and aggressive, but the reporters completely Overlooked that. This further shows the theme that people in this Society are more interested in the social aspect of the city than Any person within the city. Here is a few lines toward the end of The book that helps reinforce the idea that the people of this Society don't get the concept that there are things more important Than looks and social activities.(book pg. 263) I think that the book is trying to tell us not to let the idea of new bigger and supposedly better things for ourselves get in the way of treating our fellow human beings with the dignity that they diserve. I think that this is a very good book and very well written . I would recomend it

How effective is the use of first person narrative in The Yellow Wallpaper Essay Example
How effective is the use of first person narrative in The Yellow Wallpaper Essay Example How effective is the use of first person narrative in The Yellow Wallpaper Paper How effective is the use of first person narrative in The Yellow Wallpaper Paper Essay Topic: Literature The Yellow Wallpaper The yellow wallpaper is a story dominated by the protagonist, as she is isolated from the world and society except for the servant girl Jennie and her husband John. The advantages of using first person narrative in this article are the strong emotional and mental link with the protagonist, which can be portrayed much more effectively than any other perspective of the story. Also the point of view on Johns and the other characters, however few, actions and comments are biased to the protagonists thoughts and feelings. The protagonist also has a closer relationship with the audience than if it were in another perspective and the reader had more segregation from the main character. The first person perspective allow the protagonist to collude with the reader, this collusion would not be possible with third person perspective and second person perspective could only give another persons view of the events and with this story they would have had to have been a fly on the wall. The protagonist can make the reader sympathize with her in a way which can portray her as the victim of isolation with the only mental stimulus being the maddening, encompassing visage of the faded and tattered wallpaper that invades her thoughts and cognitions overwhelmingly to such an extent that it destroys all sense reality in her mind. I never saw so much expression in a thing before, and we all know how much expression they have, this quote show her collusion with the reader and the conversing of her, at this stage, fascination with the paper. The protagonist can get the reader involved by sharing secrets that he [John] hates to have me write a word but she still secretly journalises the events until the last couple of days when she seems to be writing the events as the happen, as if part of her obsession is to document her discoveries of the encapsulating wallpaper that enthrals her. A biased opinion can be given by the first person narrative, this opinion shows John to be acting against the will of the protagonist, but because of her social place at the time it was seen as wrong for her to question him so she puts her views on paper you see he does not believe I am sick! And what is one to do? The story cannot portray Johns reasons for her confinement or his banning of writing and any mental exercise. The first person view can show the deterioration of the protagonists mental state as she slides into delusion. At the beginning of the text she admits that there is something wrong I never used to be so sensitive. I think it is due to this nervous condition. But later on she shows here blatant derangement This bed will not move! I tried to lift it and push it until I was lame, and then I got so angry I bit off a little piece at the corner but it hurt my teeth this shows her unthinking and irrational nature, she noticed earlier on that the bed is nailed to the floor. The language of the text alters showing her slowly shifting mental state. The story begins with normal language typical of the era that it was written in but it slowly becomes more erratic and obsessive. The language also becomes more darkly descriptive as her perception changes: It [the wallpaper] sticks horribly and the pattern just enjoys it! All those strangled heads and bulbous eyes and waddling fungus growths just shriek with derision this is a much less bright and colourful portrayal of her environment than before. Before she presents the paper as One of those sprawling, flamboyant patterns committing every artistic sin. this is a less obsessive and much brighter view of the paper. This story of The Yellow Wallpaper would not have the same powerful effect on the reader if it were written from another point of view. The protagonist could not collude with the audience, she could not ask rhetorical questions and she could not make the reader involved with her defiant, secret acts of writing. The reader could not feel as if they were hiding with her and the reader could not be persuaded to take her side on the issues arising from the paper and her confinement. The whole script would be a hollow and boring case study of a seemingly mad woman if it was not told by her, she brings life to the story. The protagonist could not ask but what is one to do? with the same half asking the audience. I think that the effectiveness of the first person perspective in the Yellow Wallpaper is much more involving for the reader and it makes the story seem more real than any other way of writing.

The process of risk categorization inspection Assignment
The process of risk categorization inspection - Assignment Example Profile factors are those that put into consideration population served, type of operation, extent of handling food and its complexity. Performance factors on the other side touch on commitment practices that contribute to food safety. In addition, performance factors also cover operatorââ¬â¢s performance that complies with regulations and the extent of food safety plans. Each board of health must, at any time, put into account requirements and standard approach as outlined in the guidance document for Food Safety Program Practices of Operation. When operating at minimum, standard approach implementation would include the following. Standard approach entails implementing and developing a plan for reviewing as well as giving updates of standard operating procedures. It also covers categorization forms, tools, or templates for new approach incorporation (Public Health Division 4). A standard approach, in addition, train all staff who have either supporting or direct role in monitoring, reporting, or conducting categorization of the risk process. Finally, a standard approach also implements and develops an outcome reporting system from the categorization process of risks. The outcome reporting system is essential to monitoring changes and trends to risk classes. Furthermore, it also provides data that acts as a summary of profile and performance factors used for evaluation reasons. The first step in risk categorization of food premises process is assigning risk categories. Boards of health use assigning risk categories of food premises in when assessing annual onsite risk of every food premises (Bai 215). Subsequently, the health board completes categorization of risk assignment as they carry out the first inspection in every calendar level. However, assigning to risks categories is not applicable in recently established premises that are less than a year old. Assigning of risks is useful in planning towards meeting reporting requirements. It is important to

Doing business in emerging economies Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Doing business in emerging economies - Essay Example sized manufacturing and supply company, catering for target markets within the United Kingdomââ¬â¢s population of approximately 59 million people (UK Census, 2001). The products ranges of perfumes and cosmetics are aimed at the medium to higher earning bracket of males and females. The executive management has been following world trends of local companies entering emerging markets, and the above average returns some of these companies have shown in a relatively short time has spur them to look at the possibility of going global with Madam Cosmeticââ¬â¢s. After a lot of collaboration it was decided to evaluate the opportunity and risks of investing in China. This instigating factors for this decision was the market-reforms that was implemented in China which resulted in the largest reduction of poverty and one of the fastest increases in income levels ever seen. China toady is the sixth-largest and fastest growing economy in the world. In 2004, its $1,65 trillion economy was about one-seventh that of the U.S. Chinaââ¬â¢s rapidly expanding economy and 1,3 billion population for business, and most global companies, are either already involved in the Chinese market or have plans to do so soon (Julian Chen. 2005). China is currently one of the fastest growing economies in the world, driven by excessive government spending and a huge influx of money through the investment of Major International Companies. It is advocated as the country which presents a golden opportunity for businesses to expand and increase their profits. To proof this fact we need to look at the Macroeconomic indicators. According to the Asian Development Bank, China has grown at an average rate of 7.6% over the last five years. This growth was mostly in the private sector and has forced market fundamentals to change to address gaps and inefficiencies of state-owned enterprises. Chinaââ¬â¢s low vulnerability to external shock has helped it to maintain macroeconomic stability despite structural

Uniforms in school Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Uniforms in school - Essay Example There are three main reasons for this. The first is that it makes students more equal, the second is convenience, and the third is school pride. The simple fact is that if children wear uniforms, they are a lot less likely to notice differences between children from rich and from poor families. One of the main purposes of school is acclimatize students to the different types of people they will meet in their life. This is best done by allowing them to focus on the personality and identitiy of different people, what really counts, rather than be distracted by the surface, by the clothes that people wear. Students can easily be bullied if them come from poor families and have ragged clothes, likewise students who are rich and wear the latest designer duds might well become excessively popular. Uniforms tend to diminish or mask this unpleasant class distinctions. They promote equality, fraternity, and fellowship. They make people feel less alienated and more part of a community. Money after all is an artificial distinction. Shouldnââ¬â¢t people focus more on what really counts? Another useful argument is convenience. A lot of parents argue that because of school uniforms, they donââ¬â¢t have to buy clothes for their children, and this saves them time and money. But most children will have a few ordinary clothes next to their school uniform, but not many especially if they are in school five days a week. This also makes it easier for students to choose what they are going to wear at school. No matter that the choice is not so much made easy by virtue of uniformity, but because the students donââ¬â¢t really have much choiceââ¬âthe result is the same. Children are too young and inexperienced to be spending all their time thinking about self-presentation and the fickleness of fashion. Obsessing about these things can create a huge amount of psychological problems later in life, reducing the opportunity to get good work,
